CHANDIGARH (INDIA)







INTRODUCTION:
Chandigarh is a union territory of India. It is the capital of two states Punjab and Haryana. The name Chandigarh was derived from an ancient temple called Chandi temple. This temple devoted to Goddess Chandi. Chandigarh is very beautiful and developed city in India which is constructed and designed after independence. There are not many historical monuments or buildings but it’s in itself is very beautiful because of modern architecture, landscaped green plots and tree lined roads give pleasure to eyes. This city is stand in the foothills of Shivalik hills. Chandigarh is covered by dense Banyan and Eucalyptus trees. It is surrounded by forest area where you can find deer’s, sabers, barking deer’s, woodpeckers and peacocks.
ATTRACTIONS:
In Chandigarh there are lot of gardens, parks and sanctuaries to visit. Some are given below.
ROCK GARDEN Rock garden is designed by Nek Chand. He was transport office. It is spread in 12 acres. It is fully structured by waste and disposable stuff like broken glass bangles, china ware, clay, coal and flour sent tube. It is the magnificent example of creativity. There are 14 chambers with waterfall, statues of animals, birds and so. This garden without a single flower is the venue of the annual Teej festival. You will see here how disposable stuff can turn into imaginative patterns and textures.
SUKHNA LAKE Sukhna Lake is in sector 1 an artificial resourvire. One can do strolling and jogging there. It is the perfect place for hang out. There are some shops, cafeteria. You can do here paddle boating also. This is the perfect place to do challenging activity like yachting boating and water skiing.
ROSE GARDEN This garden is Asia’s largest Rose garden which spread in 20 acres approx. It is having 1600 varieties of Rose. This beautiful garden is open for public morning to evening. It is a perfect combination of colors and fragrances which tempts the visitors to come back again and again. Each year in this garden rose festival hosts which turn to be a major crowd puller in the city.
PINGORE GARDEN This garden is 20 km from Chandigarh. It is on Shimla-Chandigarh road. Visitor can visit there by taxies or by buses. It looks very beautiful in night when lights turn on and fountains dance. In April to June so many festivals are celebrated here like Baisakhi , Mango festival.
INTERNATIONAL DOLLS MUSEUM The main quality of this museum is it is having wide collection of different and fascinating dolls and merionetts under a single roof. It is functioning under the guidance of the Indian council of child welfare Chandigarh. This museum’s main objective is to give some pleasure to kids. There are so many dolls which are collected from all over world attracts kids as well as adults. Beautiful dolls from Netherlands, Germany, Denmark , Spain and Russia adorns this great ventures. There is a toy train in this museum which adds the pleasure of this museum. The Indian doll section is the main attraction of this museum where you will find variety of Indian dolls in different costumes.
FUN CITY This fun park is located at Ramgarh. It is spread in 43 acres. There are so many water rides and amusement rides for kids and adults. Most modern equipment’s mixed with wonderful themes makes the park a favorite hot spot of all age group. Everyone can enjoy here with family, friends or with kids.
HOW TO REACH:
Indian Airlines, Kingfisher Airlines, GoAir and Jet Airways offer a direct flight from Delhi. Tickets cost around Rs 3,000. Recently MDLR Airlines began to offer connections to Ranchi and Kolkata via Delhi. Kingfisher Airlines offers direct flight to Jammu, Srinagar (Via Jammu), Delhi (twice daily) and further connects to Kolkata via Delhi. GoAir has recently started a connecting flight to Goa Chandigarh has a Domestic Airport about 8 km (5 mi) from city Centre.
There is frequent service to and from New Delhi. The popular trains connecting New Delhi include 'Kalka (Chandigarh) Shatabdi Express' (twice daily) and the economical Chandigarh Jan Shatabdi Express (Una(H.P) to Delhi). Shatabdi Express is quite popular and it is better to have an advanced reservation at least 2-3 days prior to the journey. Also a high speed rail line will be built from Amritsar-Delhi via Chandigarh. The train is to run 350 km/h and will get passengers from Chandigarh to Delhi in 50 min and Amritsar in 1 hour and 50 mins.
Chandigarh is easily accessible by road also. It is a 4-5 hour drive from Delhi,Chandigarh is served by two bus terminals.
The Inter State Bus Terminus in Sector 43 ,provides connectivity to all major destinations in the neighboring states Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttaranchal, Jammu, and Delhi(limited).
The Inter State Bus Terminus at Sector 17 offers connectivity to all major towns of Haryana (except those on Himachal Route like Kalka) and Delhi.
Delhi is extensively connected with bus service every 15 minutes offered by Chandigarh Transport Undertaking, Haryana Roadways, Punjab Roadways and Himachal Roadways. Volvo A/C buses are also run on Chandigarh-Delhi section and offer connection to the Airport and towns like Gurgaon. The fares of Volvo buses are usually comparable with the Shatabdi Express. The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) provides local bus Transport service in Chandigarh . There are two Local bus Terminals at Sector 17 and Sector 43. The bus service is frequent and efficient and runs from 6:00AM to 10:00PM. It is very economical with a single point to point fare of Rs. 5 regardless of the distance. The map of Chandigarh showing all the bus routes is printed on the back of each ticket. In the New Grid Transport System 45 routes are being plied in Chandigarh.
Recently, mini air-conditioned buses have been deployed on some vital routes (connecting location such as PGI, ISBT -17,43, Railway Station, IT park and others). The fare for these is Rs. 10/- for a single trip.
The Chandigarh tourism also runs a special Hop On Hop off double-decker bus which takes you around for a tour of all the main spots in the city including Sukna Lake, Punjab University, and the Secretariat. Having bought one ticket, a person can board or disembark as many times in a day as he wishes. This provides him flexibility to see the places of interest and spend as much time as he wishes at a particular spot of his choice. Chandigarh Union Territory is the first city in the country to have Radio Auto service on the lines of successful working of the Radio Taxi service. The autos, pink in color, charge Rs. 10/- for 1st km and Rs. 8/- for subsequent km. The service named as "tuk-tuk" is available round the clock.
