LANCEDOWN (INDIA)

INTRODUCTION:

Lancedown is a small hill station in Uttranchal. It is 40 km far from Kotdwar. If somebody want to define Lancedown in one line it would be full of peace, greenery and beautiful mountains. This definiation is enough to define what is Lancedown in real.

A mixture of military culture and Kumani tradition. It came into its own after 1887 when the Garhwal rifles regiment of the Indian army was shifted here after being founded by EP Mainworing. Today the Garhwal rifles regimental center is at Lancedown.

It is completely pollution free. When you drive Kotdwar the roads are covered with pine trees and you will feel pleasure when winds through hills will kiss your body and sighting of koshi river make you joyous. There are very bends in the road sometime deep curves will find in roads. So if you love nature you will fall in love with Lancedown.

ATTRACTIONS:

There are two churches St. marys church and St. francis church. There is place tip and top from this place you can take a complete view of Lancedown valley. In winters sometimes it covers with fog because of its height. It is a good place for photosation also.

There is a place Gandhi chowk this is the only place where you will find some shops. Snow view and Darwan sing museum is about 5 mins walk from Gandhi park

There is a lake Bulla lake it is artificial lake has flocky mallad ducks and offers boating. You can enjoy boating here with your family or friends.If you are not intrested in boating you can visit nursery which very near to this lake or you can enjoy the beautiful company of nature and forget everything for some moment.This will make your trip extra ordinary.

Woods are dance here and full of birds, the sunset are spectucular and view of the mountain are awesome.

HOW TO REACH:

Lancedown is a very small hillstation so there is no railway track and no buses service are here. So it will be better if you visit here by your own car or by taxi. If you will drive yourself it will be more fun for you because the way to Lancedown is very beautiful and if you want to stop at some place and want to enjoy the point you can do that and take the beautiful glimpses of nature itself. There are some shops of snacks and tea on the way so during your driving you can enjoy snacking as well. You can take a look of mountains farming how they guys maintain their farms its beautiful and appreciateable too.

In Lancedown there are lodge and department owned accomodation provided that make visitors stay comfortable. Hotels may also arrange sight seeing to the near by spots. Lancedown climate is pleasent in summer. with the day being warm one could take time out, relax and enjoy oneself in nature lap. Winters are very cold in Lancedown with snowfall times. Best time to visit from march to october. There are GMVN resorts in Lancedown too for stay or you can stay in Kotdwar or drive to lancedown.Near Lancedown there is a palce Jerrithal its five km. from Lancedown you can stay there also. There is one inn Oak grove inn you can stay there. Its run by retired Rawat and his wife.

Donot take photographs in military area it can make you in trouble specially if you are a foreigner. Drive carefully as the way is very steap sometimes specially in winters fog makes the road almost blind. So be careful during driving.

ITEMS REQUIRED:

These are the items which you will be required during your visit->Toiletries, Water bottle, some medicines, sunglasses, cap, comfortable shoes, some food items, beg which you can easily hang on your shoulder(should be light in weight), woolen clothes, woolen cap, gloves, torch, towel, sunscreen lotion, binoculars.
